Additional Key Dates:

Friday, Jan. 9, 2008 Registration Deadline

"How-to" Meeting:  Please contact me ASAP if you are willing to assist with this.  I am considering either Thursday evening Nov. 15 (7-8:30 p.m.), Saturday afternoon Nov. 17, (2:00-3:30), or Monday evening Nov. 19, (7-8:30 p.m., Thanksgiving week).  Earlier would be too difficult to put together and advertise, I think.  Location:  probably either New Horizons Fellowship in Apex or White Plains Annex in Cary.  Need a date first.  If you are helping to plan/present it, you get to help set the date!

Registration:  Project Registration Deadline is January 9, 2008.  Fees - increased from $6 to $10 per project; family limit of $20.  Late registration fee of +$5.  NEW ITEM:  OPEN TO NONMEMBERS, but at a registration fee of $20.  Same registration deadline.

The Central Regional Fair date is Feb. 23, 2008

Scientific Review Committee (SRC) and FORMS:  PRE-EXPERIMENT SCIENTIFIC REVIEW AND DOCUMENTATION will be required to participate at the Central Regional Fair.  This form must be approved by the student's teacher prior to experimentation and, IF it involves human subjects, vertebrate animals, or potentially hazardous chemicals, biological agents, activities, or devices, it needs approval by a Scientific Review Committee.  We need to equip our students who wish to be eligible for this competition, so  I would like to set up a local SRC.  The SRC needs to have at least 3 members.  One must be in the medical area (vet or human), a second must be a science educator.  The third is not specified, but I would expect a scientist with an advanced degree and experience.  The team would review the research plan and make comments/requirements.   THIS COMMITTEE NEEDS TO BE SET UP ASAP.  Please send me your ideas of scientists who might like to do this!

The form can be obtained online at  http://www.ncsta.org/sciencefair/forms/ElementaryJuniorResearchForm.pdf  .  Rules and judging are, as before, based on International Science and Technology Fair (ISEF) rules. See http://www.ncsta.org/sciencefair and http://www.sciserv.org/isef for additional information.  Students should use the ISEF Rules Wizard at http://www.sciserv.org/isef/students/wizard/index.asp to determine other forms that may be required/approved before beginning the experiment.
SRC Forms will NOT be required to participate/compete in our fair, but will be required in order to represent us in the Central Regional Fair.
